Educational Presentations

Starfire Energy lends our experience and expertise by providing free educational opportunities for the general public. Joe Beach and Jennifer Beach have teaching and public speaking experience and have developed several presentations addressing sustainable energy topics. Any of these presentations can be provided upon request to small groups and organizations.

This Old Solar Electric House, 1 hour + question time, presented by Joe Beach. This presentation gives a broad overview of residential photovoltaic systems. It starts with the invention of the silicon solar cell, how it has improved in the past 50 years, how cells become panels, how panels become rooftop arrays, how arrays are used to make AC electricity for homes, and how these systems interact with the utility grid.

Introduction to Solar Energy, 1.5 hours + question time, presented by Joe Beach. This presentation is a broad overview of solar energy. Topics that are touched upon include the solar resource, photovoltaic systems, domestic hot water systems, concentrated solar power, and the types of jobs that exist in the industry. The presentation was originally developed as an introduction to a solar workforce training program developed by the International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology (ICAST).

The Savvy Solar Consumer, 1 hour (more if greater detail is desired), presented by Jennifer Beach. This presentation is designed for those interested in learning more about solar energy in relationship to their home or business. The current focus of this version of the presentation is residential solar electricity but an overview of other solar technologies is included. Areas of interest include general solar concepts, details of solar electricity and net-metering, rebates and financing, and tips on how to compare quotes.

Our off-grid solar electric systems designer has more than 12 years of installation experience in a broad range of environments. You'll need to work closely with our designer to ensure a system that supports your needs.

When specialty racking is required for your residential or commercial flatroof, curved roof, ground area, pole mount, tower attachment, or artistic project, our team has the expertise to design the appropriate solution.

If you're considering new construction, designing energy management and sustainable energy into it will save on retrofit expenses. Our team can help with roof and utility room layout, conduit and piping chases, and energy management techniques through process or automated controls.
